Ticking the boxes

Do you have a list of writing goals or aspirations? The Indoor Writer is an obsessive list maker and of course she's got a specific list for writing goals. These range from:
nomination for the Man Booker Prize (well you have to aim high!)
to
50 short stories published (she's at 41 to date ...)

Somewhere in this list is getting a story in the CHRISTMAS issue of The People's Friend. And this one is now definitively TICKED!

Her short story 'Once Upon a Christmas Time' (and they kept the original title) is published in issue 98 The People's Friend Christmas Special.

You're far more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down. You don't have to do this at the start of a new year, otherwise they can turn into resolutions rather than goals - any time will do. And remember to celebrate when you get to TICK one off!

  1. Well done for ticking that one off.

I make lists of tasks to do rather than the results I hope for, because they're under my control. It probably is a good idea to remind myself of my aims though, so I don't lose sight of them.

    1. Sadly, I do both being an obsessive list maker, Patsy. But it can be a good idea to set out some aims/goals - good excuse to celebrate when you hit them :)

  2. Such a shame we're not in the same issue. You know what my end of year goal is - but doesn't look like I'll make it.

    1. I was really disappointed to see we weren't issue buds. Let me know when your Xmas stories are out. And are you sure about the goal - there's still time .... We must have a review of the year at next teacake session :)

  5. I agree. Writing things down is the first step towards achieving them. I once edited a book on magic (don't ask!), and the one piece of useful advice I took from it was that if you can't achieve your ultimate goal, settle for one on the way. For example, if you want to live in a cottage by the sea, but you're stuck in a flat in Leicester, at least put up some posters of Skegness. It's all about 'wishing makes it so'.

    1. I'm a great believer in positive thinking and visualisation too, Julia. It all helps, doesn't it. In fact I've already chosen the frock I'm going to wear for the Man Booker prize giving (tee-hee)

  6. Well done on the Christmas story. I like your goal to achieve 50 published stories. I'm writing that one down. The race is on, though having seen your name on the William Soutar shortlist TWICE, I have a feeling I'm getting left behind somewhere along the line.

    1. Oh now the race is on, Veronica! Go on what number are you up? But you realise we'll then have to set a new target. I like to have lots of goals on the go, big and small, otherwise it can all seem so far off ... this writing lark can be tough :)

  7. Fantastic achievement Tracy. Congratulations on ticking off your PF Christmas story. Can't wait to get back to the UK to buy my copy. I actually sat down this afternoon with my brand new Writing Diary 2015 and started making myself lists, deadlines and targets (as well as wishes of course). All the best.

    1. Thanks, Nicola :)
I'm impressed you've started the 2015 goals. I think I will be mulling on mine over Xmas holidays ...
