The Indoor Writer is doubly celebrating this week. Firstly, for hitting a century of short stories. On Saturday she finished writing her 100th short story. Sadly, this is known because she logs every finished piece in a notebook. Jane Wenham-Jones shared at a West Sussex Writers evening that she used to keep an exercise book logging all the short stories she submitted to magazines. So the Indoor Writer started up her own, which after a couple of years outgrew the original notebook and had to be transcribed to a more serious A4 tome. In this she catalogues every completed and submitted story, its title, word count and submission history. The total does include all flash pieces, including drabbles (100 words) and all entries written for the weekly Write-Invite competition (read more
here). And she sticks coloured stars against the stories that do well, because a writer needs some pleasure (no matter how small) to make it all the torture worthwhile...
Secondly, its her birthday on Friday. Which deserves serious celebration. So there will be a bit of this,
a lot of this,
and hopefully a good dash of this (here you will have to imagine a photo of the sun, it's been as rare as hen's teeth round here!)
Do you track or log your story submissions? If you do keep tabs then what's your running total?
Wow Tracy, congrats on reaching 100 stories, I am trailing woefully behind you, though I haven't been writing for so long. Happy Birthday also, mine is this coming Monday, nice to have a birthday in the middle of the year, you never know we may even get sunshine (whatever that is). Congrats again and here is to the next 100!
ReplyDeleteCheers Claire & virtual CLINK for your birthday on Monday. Do you remember it always being hot and sunny for your birthday when younger? Or is that just the passing of time distorting our memories? Good luck with your story count too :)
DeleteHappy birthday Tracy! Hope it's a good one! :) And congrats on 100 stories...wow! That's something to be proud of. Edith xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks Edith :)
DeleteThat's a brilliant achievement, Tracy! I don't keep such meticulous records so I've no idea how many stories I've written (I just know it's a lot, lot more than have ever been published!)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sally. Ah well the published number is a lot less, I calculate about 30% published to date.
DeleteCongratulations honey! :)

Happy birthday! Enjoy the cake ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo. Hubby is treating to me lunch at my favourite tearooms, so cake may feature, along with scones/jam/cream....you get the picture.
DeleteWow! That is organisation and then some! I'm definitely the type of person who takes pleasure in the small things - coloured post-its while doing research for instance!
ReplyDeleteI also nominated you for a Liebster Award - cheers!
Brandy's Bustlings
Thanks for popping by Brandy and for the award. Lovely! :)x
DeleteCongratulations on your birthday and on the 100 stories, particularly on having about 30% published. That is an incredible achievement! This and your blog is inspirational, so thanks Tracy. May the sun shine, fingers and everything else crossed!
ReplyDeleteThank you for lovely comments Carol :)
DeleteSorry, didn't mean to be unknown.

Hope you had a happy, happy, happy birthday, Tracy! Hope people bought you lots of lovely things to put in your ruck sack. Sorry I didn't say it on the day but as you know I was having a technology free holiday in Greece.
ReplyDeleteHad a lovely birthday Wendy - special treat was cream tea lunch at Steyning Tearooms with hubby & teen. Hope you had a terrific time in Greece and come back with tan and buckets of story ideas.
